Adopted Units

The Monterey Peninsula Council provides ongoing support for several maritime service units. Our objective is to improve the understanding of and appreciation for those who wear the uniforms of America’s armed forces and to better the conditions under which they live. To do this, we have “adopted” ships and units of the sea services. Our purpose is to concentrate the efforts of local Navy League members on that particular ship or station.

We support our adopted ships and units in the following ways:

  • Ships– We host a reception for the officers when a ship homeported elsewhere visits Monterey. Generally, the Naval Postgraduate School hosts the crew. We collect books, games, videos, puzzles etc. for the ships.
  • All ships and units– We present a plaque and certificate of adoption at an adoption ceremony. We supply award plaques or certificates for their Sailor of the Month, Quarter and Year. We strive to keep in close contact with all our adopted units and maintain a good working relationship with them.
  • Naval Postgraduate School — At each quarterly graduation ceremony, we present our prestigious Highest Achievement Award to the top graduating student.
