Coast Guard Station Monterey is primarily involved with maritime law enforcement and search and rescue along the California coast. The 40 plus men and women assigned to the Station operate a variety of rescue resources. They work jointly with other agencies governing the Marine Sanctuary, and they also operate a sub-station in Santa Cruz on weekends and during summer boating season. The Coast Guard operates under the Department of Homeland Security.
The NLUS Monterey Peninsula Council adopted Coast Guard Station Monterey, formerly Coast Guard Group Monterey, in 1985.
